Good Ski Passes: The Epic Pass and the Colorado Pass

With ski/snowboard lift tickets averaging around $95 per day, winter recreation can get very expensive.  We know you like a Good Deal just as much as we do.  When deciding where to spend your time this winter, there are a lot of factors to consider including proximity to Denver, cost, acreage, quality of terrain, and more.  Though it would seem like a lot to consider, it isn’t. If you enjoy skiing and you plan to do it a lot, there are two Good options for you.

The Lake Chutes at Breckenridge

The Epic Pass from Vail Resorts simply can’t be beat.  For $599 you get to ski as much as you want, whenever you want at six world class ski resorts: Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin, and Heavenly.  The first five of these resorts are only an average of about an hour and a half drive from Denver.  Heavenly is an excellent ski resort on the border of California and Nevada at Lake Tahoe that you won’t need to go to at all since you already will have access to some of the best skiing in the world–right in your backyard.

The Colorado Pass is the next best option for those who are a litte more thrifty or ski a little less.  At $459, you get access to Vail, Breck, Beaver Creek, A-Basin, and Keystone, but you are limited to 10 days at Vail and Beaver Creek.  Though many consider Vail to be in the top five ski resorts in the world, if you don’t mind limiting your access to it, get the Colorado Pass and enjoy your winter.  It’s a great pass.

Vail Resorts does offer one more pass, the Summit Pass, but we won’t even put it in bold because you don’t get a single day at Vail.  You can’t live in Denver and not ski Vail at least once in the season, and if you’re going to ski once at Vail, the cost of one lift ticket there is more than the difference between the Summit Pass and the Colorado Pass, which gives you 10 days at Vail.  Epic or Colorado are your two best bets.
