Do you have a dog or know someone that does?  Christmas is coming up, and instead of buying that special pooch a brand new toy or leash that it will rip apart in minutes, why not buy a toy or leash that is local, strong, and Earth-friendly?

Based just outside of Boulder, CO, Dirtbag Dog Toys makes awesome dog leashes and toys out of  retired climbing ropes, most of which come from the Denver and Boulder areas.  We thought this was a fantastic concept, so this past weekend, we went to a dog park in Boulder to try out some of the toys.  They were a huge hit.  Every dog that was any dog was battling for them (see the videos at the end of the article to know what we’re talking about), and they were fun for us to play with, as well.  At one point, we found ourselves engaged in tug of war with three dogs at a time.

These leashes and toys are Good for several reasons.  We love the fact that ropes that otherwise might have ended up in a landfill instead have a great purpose and are staying out of the dump.  We love the strength of the leashes and toys–it would take a very long time for even the biggest dogs to chew through them.  And we love that a whopping 20% of all proceeds are donated to local animal shelters and other worthy causes.

We were fortunate to work out an exclusive deal for readers of The Good Life Denver.  By entering the code “GOODLIFESINGLE” where the checkout says, “Add special instructions to merchant,” all readers of The Good Life Denver who buy a leash or toy will receive a free Single dog toy (a $5 value, see image above/right).

So…saving some planet, saving some money, buying local, supporting local nonprofits, getting a free dog toy, having happy dogs, getting toys and leashes that last…what more do we need to say?  Visit www.dirtbagtoys.com for more info.
