Good Idea and Deal: Uber Denver ($10 off)
A company called Uber has just arrived in Denver, and it is working to make it easier to get you where you need to go–in style.
Denver is a medium-sized city–not too big and not too small. Most people have cars, and in many parts of downtown, you can hail a cab if you’re patient enough. That being said, hailing a cab can sometimes be a pain in the rear-end, and if you’re trying to get one from your house or apartment, flagging one down might not be an option. Calling for one can be a pain too, as often you get put on hold for an extended period of time, have to state your destination and/or address repeatedly, and then are told the company can’t predict how long it will take for a cab to get there. There is an app called Taxi Magic that has partnered with Denver Yellow Cab to use your phone’s GPS to get you a cab without ever having to call the cab company, be put on hold, or deal with the hassle of trying to flag one down.
If you’d like to arrive at your destination in a little more style, though, you can now also do so from your phone via an app called Uber (formerly called UberCab). Uber delivers private luxury car service in the Denver metro area to you while letting you avoid the hassle of calling in, being put on hold, stating your address repeatedly, not knowing how long your ride is going to take, etc. Just launch the app, and it will detect where you are, show you the available cars around you, estimate the time it will take for the car to get there, and text you when your car is a minute away. You can review the driver at the end of your ride, and payment is a breeze. No cash or a credit card is necessary; you enter your credit card information when you sign up for the app, and your card is charged from the back end upon completion of your ride (tips are already factored into the rates, so you don’t have to worry about having money for a tip either).
The rates, as expected for on-demand luxury car service, are more than what you’d pay for a taxi. With the promo code “uber10denver” (or by clicking here), though, you get $10 off your first Uber ride, which could actually make it cheaper than a cab (depending on where you are going). And if you refer friends to sign up, you and them both will get a $10 toward a future ride, too.
