Good Denver Restaurant: Steuben’s

Steuben’s is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver, and I figure it’s about time that I write an article about it.  A few nights ago, I stopped by the Good Uptown restaurant to pick up some food to go.  Every time I’ve eaten at Steuben’s in the past, I’ve eaten at Steuben’s, but after a very long day’s work I was feeling like eating its comfort food in the comfort of my own home.  Though Steuben’s has a separate take-out entrance through which you can enter to pick up your order, when you order take-out at Steuben’s they will bring your food right to your car.  I arrived about 10 minutes early to pick up my order, and a server immediately came out to my car with my receipt and asked if there was anything she could get me while I waited.  And thus started yet another Good experience at Steuben’s…

Steuben’s is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver for many Good reasons.  Most importantly, their food is very Good.  It’s what I would refer to as “contemporary comfort food.”  Delicious comfort lunch/dinner staples like fried chicken, ribs, barbeque beef brisket, and meatloaf fill the menu along with items like grilled salmon, herb-roasted chicken, trout amandine, and delicious burgers.  I have yet to eat a dish at Steuben’s that I haven’t liked.

The “Lucky Five” late-night deal from Steuben’s

Usually, I dine at Steuben’s for lunch or dinner, but the Steuben’s brunch is also fantastic.  Choose from a variety of “Bennys” (Eggs Benedict) such as the chorizo and avocado, dive into a stack of pancakes, enjoy the shrimp and grits, or indulge with biscuits and gravy.

Steuben’s is also a Good place to grab a drink.  The retro ambiance of Steuben’s is unlike any other, the cocktails at Steuben’s are excellent (and generally strong), the drink list is extensive, and I love that that the restaurant offers nearly all of the locally-distilled Leopold Bros. line of spirits.

Perhaps my favorite hidden gem at Steuben’s, though, is its late-night “Lucky Five” happy hour special.  After 10pm, seven days a week, you can get a cheeseburger, beer, and fries for only $5.00.  This is easily one of my favorite food deals in Denver.  On top of that deal, you can also use your $10 off a purchase of $25 or more card at Steuben’s from the Eat Denver Dining Deck–but you can only play that card once…

Steuben’s is located at 523 E. 17th Ave. in the Uptown neighborhood.  The restaurant was started by Josh Wolkon, who is also responsible for Vesta Dippng Grill and the new Ace Eat Serve (which you can find next door to Steuben’s).  Through his innovative restaurants, Josh is not only elevating the Denver dining scene, but he’s also disrupting the traditional concept of what a dining experience should be.  Keep up the Good work, Josh!
