Good Denver Events this Weekend: Oktoberfest, Rock n’ Roll Marathon, Pedal the Plains, Health & Fitness Expo, and Furthur at Red Rocks
This is a Good weekend for food, music, and athletics in and around Denver!
Denver Oktoberfest: This weekend is the first of two sequential weekends of Oktoberfest in downtown Denver. Eat Good sausages, drink Good beer, and enjoy Good music on Larimer between 20th and 22nd. Saturday night will be a particularly Good time to join in the festivities, as the awesome Denver band Filthy Children will be performing from 10pm-1am. You might even try your arms at the stein-hoisting competition; the male and female winners receive an all-expenses paid trip to Boston courtesy of Sam Adams.
Denver Rock n’ Roll Marathon: The Denver Rock n’ Roll Marathon will be taking place this Saturday, starting at Civic Center Park, and music every mile distinguishes this marathon from others. If you’re not already registered there is no day-of registration, but you can register on Friday at the Denver Health & Fitness Expo at the convention center on Friday. The course looks great–it takes runners south along Logan St. and on the way back north goes around Wash. Park and Cheesman Park.
Denver Health & Fitness Expo: The Denver Health & Fitness Expo is all day Friday at the Convention Center. “Over 60 exhibitors will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health & nutritional information and much more.” The event is free and open to the public–get some Good schwag before the big race on Saturday!
Pedal the Plains: Governor Hickenlooper’s compliment to Ride the Rockies, Pedal the Plains, is a three day bike tour designed to showcase parts of Colorado that get a little less publicity. The 3 day, 168-mile tour starts Friday in Yuma, and there also is a one-day timed 120 mile option starting in Burlington on Saturday, and a 6.5 mile family ride also taking place on Saturday.
Furthur at Red Rocks: Grateful Dead legends Phil Lesh and Bob Weir and other musicians are playing three nights of Grateful Dead tunes as the band Furthur at Red Rocks this weekend. Friday and Saturday night’s shows are sold out, but tickets are still available for Sunday night’s show via Ticketmaster (and tickets are available for all three nights on Stubhub).
If you’re looking for something else to do this weekend, you also might consider heading to the mountains to see the fall colors!
